LFS Growth Chambers

The LFS Growth Chambers (Conviron PGR15 & GR48) are research-grade controlled-environment units designed for precise, uniform plant growth studies, located in the H.R. MacMillan Building (room 218) and are available for UBC wide bookings. The PGR15 is a tall, LED-lit reach-in chamber ideal for single-tier experiments with flexible temperature, light, and humidity control. The GR48 is a walk-in chamber offering spacious, high-intensity LED lighting and stable conditions suited for larger plant populations and reproducible long-term experiments. Both deliver reliable environmental consistency, adjustable light spectra, and tight climate control that researchers depend on for reproducible plant science results.
Key Features of the Conviron Growth Chambers:
3 PGR-15 Growth Chambers (Reach-ins) are available with the following capabilities:
- ~16.1 ft² growth area
- Adjustable canopy to maintain distance between lamps and plants, ~58" growth height
- Broad-spectrum LED, standard intensity ~1,000 µmol m⁻² s⁻¹
- High temperature ranges available:
- Range (lights on): ~10 – 50 °C (standard; may vary with configuration).
- Range (lights off): ~4 – 50 °C
- Unifloor / downward→up redistribution in rooms) plus precise refrigeration and humidity control so temperature and RH are uniform across the canopy
- Humidity control with potential for up to ~90 % RH depending on settings and plants
- Capability for day/night temp cycles, light programs, alarms, data logging (depending on controller options).
There are 2 GR-48 Growth Rooms available (Walk-in) with the following capabilities:
- ~48 ft² growth area
- Adjustable canopy to maintain distance between lamps and plants, ~85" growth height
- Broad-spectrum LED, standard intensity ~1,200 µmol m⁻² s⁻¹
- High temperature range (lights on): ~5– 35 °C (standard; may vary with configuration).
- Unifloor / downward→up redistribution in rooms) plus precise refrigeration and humidity control so temperature and RH are uniform across the canopy
- Humidity control with potential for up to ~85-90 % RH depending on settings and plants
- Capability for day/night temp cycles, light programs, alarms, data logging (depending on controller options).
Booking Information and Growth Chamber Training
The LFS Growth Chamber Training Guide must be completed and submitted prior to booking any growth chambers.
