The 21-Day Racial Equity Habit-Building Challenge (created by Food Solutions New England and the University of New Hampshire Sustainability Initiative) is not only a foundation for going from individual to collective change, it is also a springboard for groups to come together, open up about issues of race and racism, and form ongoing, year-round 365-day action.

Climate Justice Webinar Series: Hannah Wittman panel speaker

 

Take Nature as the Measure: The Search for Sustainability is the next topic of this webinar series. Speakers include Wes Jackson, one of the founders of the sustainable agriculture movement, author Robert Jensen, and UBC professors Hannah Wittman and M.V. Ramana. In more than four decades as president of The Land Institute, Wes Jackson became widely known as one of the founders of the sustainable agriculture movement for his work on perennial grains and Natural Systems Agriculture. Learn about Jackson’s ideas to advance sustainable agriculture and the other dramatic changes necessary if we are to effectively address climate change and other ecological crises and create a sustainable and just society for all to thrive.

Danone Institute North America “One Planet. One Health” Initiative 2021


Danone Institute North America has a grant program for students, university faculty members and community members.
 
Below is a brief overview of the Danone Institute North America “One Planet. One Health” Initiative: 

  • Goal: Fund transdisciplinary teams (up to 5 teams) to design, implement and evaluate actionable community-based projects on sustainable food systems that contribute to the nutritional health of populations and support communication about their impact.
  • Eligibility: Transdisciplinary teams from Canada or the US comprised of faculty, students, and community members. Teams should include four core team members representing diverse disciplines related to food systems, including, but not limited to, nutrition, health, economics, agriculture, community food access and social or environmental sciences. At least one team member must be a faculty member from a Canadian or US institution of higher education.  
  • Award: $30,000 per team to cover a 24-month period for implementing and evaluating the project
  • Deadline: June 6, 2021 
  • Applications are accepted in English only.

Speakers:

Sean Kondra spent over a decade in finance and then left to join an Agritech company he helped to fund. He is a multiple co-founder in the verticals of data, machine learning and emergency management. He has worked with multiple Fortune 500 clients like Daimler, Merck and Franklin Templeton Investments. He is an innovation mentor at the Toronto Police Service.

Chris Kay was the group manager for the Ryerson Angel Network while studying at Ryerson University. He has 10 years of experience as a Financial Analyst at a family office and then left to partner with Nissan & INFINITI Motors to build and operate their Innovation Lab in Toronto & Hong Kong. He is a former Techstars mentor and a co-founder of Startup Boost.
