Media Release – Frederik Noack

A UBC media release came out today on Frederik Noack’s collaborative study regarding the impact of COVID-19 on global air pollution. Globally, COVID lockdown measures reduced air pollution by 45 per cent domestically and 35 per cent internationally on average during the first wave of lockdowns. But the decrease in air pollution was not the case across the board. Some world regions including parts of South America, Asia and the American Midwest saw an uptick in air pollution based on their economic activity.

Read the media release. The study, Saving the world from your couch: The heterogeneous medium-run benefits of COVID-19 lockdowns on air pollution is published in Environmental Research Letters.
