Staff News from LFS Student Services – Congratulations and farewell, Heather James

It is with mixed emotions we share that Heather James, Academic Advisor, will be closing out her time in LFS Student Services after a year with our team – her last day with us will be Wednesday, March 3.  Heather started with us just before the pandemic hit to cover Bre’s maternity leave, and as challenging as this time has been for all of us, personally and professionally, it was serendipitous that Heather joined the team when she did.  Not only is she a strong academic advisor who is able to provide care and support to our students, she also has a keen interest in and aptitude for online learning technologies.  She has been instrumental in supporting the team to successfully pivot to a virtual service model and thrive in an online space.  Heather will be leaving UBC to further apply her passion for digital learning and design as an Engagement Strategist with an external design agency.  We wish Heather all the best as she pursues this new adventure. If you’d like to stay in touch, please feel free to connect with her directly.

Additionally, Bre Jakobsen has extended her maternity leave and will be returning to her Academic Advisor role on August 23, 2021 rather than in March.  We appreciate your patience as the team operates with reduced staffing levels in the interim.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Christine Klaray, Director, Student Services: christine.klaray@ubc.ca.

Share Your Feedback in the Workplace Preferences Survey by March 3

As COVID-19 continues to impact the way we teach, perform research, and work, faculty and staff are invited to share feedback in the Workplace Preferences Survey by March 3. This survey is an opportunity to share feedback on your experiences in the workplace over the last year, whether working remotely or on campus, as well as what you’d like your workplace to look like in the future. Participating in the survey is easy. It takes about five minutes to complete.

Access the survey here: https://hr.ubc.ca/workplace-surveys

The survey closes end of day on Wednesday, March 3.
