Guest Speaker: Dr. Levente Diosady, Food Engineering, University of Toronto
Guest Seminar Topic: Process development and scale-up for salt fortification

Prof. Levente Diosady, PhD, RD, is Professor Emeritus in Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at University of Toronto, Toronto, ON. He has authored over 120 publications in refereed journals, including 17 patents. Dr. Diosady has received multiple awards and honors including the CIFST Eva Award, the IFT Babcock-Hart Award, the Canada Award for Business Excellence, the Engineers Canada Gold Medal Award, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the Officers’ Cross of the Order of Merit from his native Hungary. In 2019, Dr. Diosady was named as an Officer of the Order of Canada for his work on iron fortification of salt.

Lunch & Learn Series: Planning Your Midterms

This session will be held on Friday, February 5, 2020 at noon.

Are you ready for midterms? Are you wondering what settings or software you should be using for your midterms? The topic of this Friday’s Lunch & Learn will be Planning your Midterms.

We will discuss instructors’ plans and recommendations for the following:

  • Canvas quiz settings
  • 3rd party software (e.g. e-books, LockDown)
  • Time zone accommodations
  • Preventing academic dishonesty

Hybrid Teaching Pilot Grant for Summer 2021 (note new deadline)

The Provost’s office has committed to fund five projects to pilot and evaluate experimentations with hybrid teaching and learning models in a limited number of courses in Summer 2021.  Funding is available up to a total of $18,500 for each project, plus central support for evaluation of the pilots. This funding is intended to support both the development and teaching of these pilots.

Applications must be submitted to Zhaoming Xu (zxu@mail.ubc.ca) by February 15, 2021. Applicants will be notified of the results in the first week of March.
