Random Acts of Recognition

A huge shout-out to the following students for organizing the LFS Graduate Student Conference, held on March 15. Set up an online communication platform such as WhatsApp, Slack, Microsoft Teams and encourage employees to share information, updates, and chat.

2021 UBC 3MT Competition

The UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is happening virtually next week! Everyone is welcome to come out and cheer on the graduate students and learn about research at UBC.

The 3MT is an academic competition that assists current graduate students with fostering effective presentation and communication skills. Participants have just three minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their research project to a non-specialist audience.

Among the ten finalists is LFS’s Tebogo Leepile, a PhD candidate in the Integrated Studies in Land and Food Systems program (supervisors: Dr Eduardo Jovel & Dr Crystal Karakochuk). Tebogo’s presentation is titled ‘MyData_MyVoice: Prevalence of Anemia among San Women and Young Children in Rural Botswana’

LFS LC Lunch & Learn Series – TODAY – Peer Review Tools with Prabhjot Nagra

This session will be held TODAY at noon

In this week’s Lunch and Learn we will have a presentation and discussion on ‘peer review’ for online learning. Peer evaluation also known as peer review is a type of assessment activity where students are asked to provide feedback on, or potentially grade the work of other students in their course.

At UBC, instructors have different tools available to help students provide their peers with written feedback and structured grading based on the goals of the course. These tools include:

  • Canvas peer review
  • ComPAIR
  • PeerWise
  • iPeer
  • PeerScholar

Celebrate Learning Week

UBC is hosting the 12th Annual Celebrate Learning Week online from May 17 – 23, 2021. For the first time, UBCV and UBCO will collaboratively present this week-long initiative that showcases teaching and learning opportunities at UBC through open lectures, poster sessions, workshops and more.

UBC faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate in Celebrate Learning Week by coordinating and/or attending events. We invite contributions that demonstrate innovation in online, blended or other teaching practices; student experiences; equity, diversity and inclusion; open educational resources and wellbeing.
