Welcome to JOHSC! Please read the important information below about your required training and what is expected of you:

  • If you are a regular member, you are expected to attend every monthly meeting. If you cannot attend, it is your responsibility to contact your alternate and ask them to attend in your place. You must also inform the co-chair(s) of your absence.
  • All JOHSC members (regular and alternates) must take mandatory 8-hour training within 6 months of joining. This training is spilt into two parts:
  • Once both parts of your training are complete, please notify your co-chairs so that it can be recorded in the next meeting minutes.

All JOHSC members are entitled to an additional 8 hours of annual educational leave, for the purposes of attending occupational health and safety training courses.

An example of an event you can attend is the annual UBC Safety Day.

The employer must provide the educational leave without loss of pay or other benefits and must pay for, or reimburse the worker for, the costs of the training course and the reasonable costs of attending the course.

If you have questions about your educational leave, contact your co-chairs.
