The LFS Growth Chamber Training Guide must be completed and submitted prior to booking any growth chambers.
Booking Policies
- LFS Growth Chambers bookings can be made by internal and external users; however, LFS internal users are prioritized, please email lewis.fausak[at]ubc.ca or andy.jeffries[at]ubc.ca for all inquiries.
- Review and submit LFS Growth Chamber Training Guide to the Training Record Management Site before submitting a booking request.
- In the description field on the booking form, all of the following details of your experiment must be included:
- Plant type: ex: wheat, grapes etc.
- Growing media: type of growing media (soil, potting mix, etc.)
- Chemicals: ex: fertilizers, pesticides, etc.
- Biohazards: potential biohazards
- Equipment: ex: irrigation equipment, etc.
- Any other pertinent information regarding setup and use of the growth chambers out of their normal operation.
- Book at least 24 hours in advance (working days only) to allow for confirmation of availability. Do not use a growth chamber without confirmation, as there may be a request that has not shown up on the booking page.
- Cancellations must be completed at least one month prior to the start of your booking to avoid an early cancellation fee.
- Access to the Growth Chamber room can be obtained through Access Requests.
- Priority will be given to investigations that:
- Require special environments, conditions, or uniformity not available within a greenhouse and
- Are part of a sponsored research project.
- In addition, assignments will be made to permit efficient utilization of growth chambers and to accommodate a large number of investigators.
- Six months will be the longest allocation granted unless approved by lewis.fausak[at]ubc.ca or andy.jeffries[at]ubc.ca. After which the investigator must re-apply for space. If there are individuals waiting for growth chambers, new users will be allocated space as reservations expire.

Use of the LFS Growth Chambers (located in MCML 218) is subject to a monthly payment schedule, which can be pro-rated for daily use. Cancellations must be completed at least one month prior to the start of your booking to avoid an early cancellation fee. See below for fees:
- Reach-in Growth Chamber (1, 2, and 3): $200/month for LFS Bookings ($250/month for external faculty bookings)
- Walk-in Growth Chamber (4 and 5): $300/month for LFS Bookings ($350/month for external faculty bookings)
- All users are required to clean the growth chambers as outlined in the LFS Growth Chamber Training Guide.
- Failure to comply with the cleaning policy will result in a cleaning/maintenance fee of $250.
- All users are required to keep the growth chamber room clean and tidy and allow room for other users to work.
MCML 218 is equipped with 2 Conviron Walk-In Growth Chambers (GR 48) and 3 Conviron Reach-In Chambers (PGR 15) with:

- 1.5m² (16.1ft²) of plant growth area

- LED lights, 1000 µmol/m²/sec
- Downward airflow design
- 4-45°C
