Let’s talk work…
Describe what you do for LFS:
I try my best to facilitate Researcher’s needs at Totem Field. These needs might include tilling the field, setting up irrigation, applying soil amendments, and setting up a Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan. I also perform all the field maintenance required for the approximately 7 acres of land at Totem Field. In addition to those responsibilities, I help out at the Greenhouse whenever needed.
What are you currently working on?
I am actively trying to search for new researchers who might have some interested in doing experiments at the field. I am currently making a Totem information package to be sent out broadly. I also have some field/tree work on the go.

What do you enjoy the most about working for LFS?
The people are amazing. Everyone is so nice which makes the work environment very enjoyable.
What challenge have you dealt with that you are most proud of?
My position often involves coordination between various faculties, departments, and managers. I am proud of my ability to make good working relationships with students, staff and faculty.

How do you like to recharge?
I am very active in my free time. I particularly enjoy trail running and ski touring (we live in a such a beautiful part of the world).
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I would like the ability to survive without oxygen, and for my body to withstand the pressure of the deep sea. This way, I could explore from the ocean bottom, to our highest mountain peaks.
What was a favourite vacation or trip you’ve taken?
It must be sea kayaking in the broken islands just south of Ukluelet/Tofino. It was such a privilege to spend a week in this amazing archipelago. There are many important archeological sites of the Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations people, incredible old growth trees, and spectacular wildlife.
What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?
The Chilly Burrito Platter at the NAAM (4th and Macdonald). Who wouldn’t like the NAAM salad dressing, and miso gravy that goes with those delicious sesame fries?
What was the last book you read?
The Market Gardener (by Jean-Martin Fortier) which is practical but not super exciting. I am currently reading the President is Missing (by Bill Clinton, and James Patterson) which is a political thriller.
Who inspires you and why?
Gord Downie, who was the lead singer of Canada’s rock band: The Tragically Hip. I respect his humility and his open minded approach to the world. I am also amazed how productive he was in the last year of his life and how much attention he brought to injustices inflicted onto First Nations people.
What’s one thing your co-workers don’t know about you?
I enjoy going to concerts. I enjoy all genres ranging from folk to hip hop.
