Feature Friday with Andy Jeffries

Job title: Faculty Operations Manager

Hometown: Tsawwassen, BC

How long have you worked at LFS/UBC?

7 months at LFS, 26 years at UBC

Let’s talk work…

Describe what you do for LFS:

Oversee the operations of the Faculty including the space, safety initiatives and strategic decision-making.

What are you currently working on?

Looking at future space requirements of the Faculty and how best to support future growth.

What do you enjoy the most about working for LFS?

I really enjoy working with all the great people at LFS, there are so many interesting fields of teaching and research which makes for a truly enriching and collegial working environment.

What challenge have you dealt with that you are most proud of?

I’m happy to have gotten to a point where I have a good insight into all of the programs, research and teaching. This helps me understand the diverse needs of the Faculty from which decisions can be based on.

Let’s get personal…

How do you like to recharge?

Exploring nature with my family though boating, fishing and hiking.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

Being able to see into the future! I would love to see how everything ends up but I wouldn’t get to enjoy the journey along the way.

What was a favourite vacation or trip you’ve taken?

I’d have to say a road trip through Ireland before starting our family.

What was the last book you read?

I would love to have more time for books that aren’t targeted at children! Last night we read another installment of ‘I survived’. The last age appropriate book was ‘Guns, Germs and Steel’ by Jared Diamond.

What’s one thing your co-workers don’t know about you?

I love to work in the garden, which is great because there are many knowledgeable resources here…
