Watermain repair on 16th Avenue in the University Endowment Lands (UEL)

Please be advised that the University Endowment Lands will be completing an emergency repair on an incoming watermain on 16th Avenue.

UBC Facilities will support this work from April 20th – 22nd, 2022 by switching over our campus water feed, once the repair commences.

During this switchover, our teams do not anticipate any disruption to our water supply. However, you may notice some differences in your water during the changeover:

  • Some users may experience temporary low water pressure in their buildings.
  • Changes in the flow of water within UBC’s water distribution system may cause temporary turbidity (discolouration and/or cloudiness) in the water. Water clarity should return to normal after a short period of typical use. Our water will remain safe to use and drink throughout the changeover.
  • Research equipment such as boosters may not operate as expected due to possible low water pressure.

The Building Operations Facilities team will continue to monitor the water quality and will provide further information should the situation change.

Tech Tip Tuesday: Manage your Blocked Email Addresses on FASmail to reduce spam

Spam and Junk mails can clog up your email inboxes and contain potentially harmful attachments. To ensure you are maintaining a safe inbox as much as possible, you can put frequent junk/spam senders on the blocked email list. This prevents the senders from sending junk/spam email to your inbox.

To block senders, you may simply right click on their email (ctrl + click for Mac users) and mark it as junk. The sender will be added to the blocked senders list.

If you wish to review your blocked senders list, you need to log in to UBC Webmail at https://mail.ubc.ca/ and sign in with your CWL ID and Password. Click on the Settings (gear icon) on the top right corner next to your profile picture. Select ‘Options’ on the dropdown list that appears. Under Mail> Accounts, select ‘Block or Allow’ list. This opens the list of email addresses you have blocked. You may edit, delete or add email addresses to this list.

You may also check the Junk Email Reporting Settings to ensure that you are sharing reports with companies that fight junk mails.

For more information, contact the LFS Learning Centre at it@landfood.ubc.ca.
