Farewell to Deanna Bracewell!

It is with mixed emotions that we announce that Deanna Bracewell will be leaving the Food, Nutrition & Health Program where she has worked with Patricia Hingston as the Project Coordinator for the Food Science Curriculum Renewal Project.

We wish to thank her for her contributions to the project, where she assisted in negotiating curricular proposals and facilitating curricular visibility.  Deanna’s new role as Curriculum Manager, UBC Health will support interprofessional education for UBC health profession students located throughout the province. Any faculty with remaining curriculum renewal questions are encouraged to reach out to her before her last day, April 30th, 2021.  We wish her well in her new position!

Wellness Wednesday

Your Mental Health Tip of the Week:

Check your biases.

We all have them, but being aware helps us stay open to new ideas,
build connection with our colleagues, and find creative solutions.

Random Acts of Recognition

Congratulations to Random Acts of Recognition recipients:

David Kitts, Nick Grant and Baohua Wang for their stellar support in the recent round of NSERC Discovery Grants. All full-time, tenure-track faculty members who applied were successful (6 in total)!  Applications included both first-time applicants (new hires) and also renewal of grants (established researchers) and all grants were given the maximum 5-year tenure.

To nominate a faculty member, staff or graduate student that’s been doing an outstanding job or has gone above and beyond in some way, send an email to lfs.recognition@ubc.ca and tell us why this person should be recognized. Lunch & Learn Series: Videomaking with Smartphones with Duncan McHugh

This session will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 at noon.

There’s a saying that the best camera is the one you have with you. These days, most of us have access to smartphones and tablets capable of creating high quality videos. This workshop will look out how to get the most out of these devices, especially as many of us are considering new ways of communicating remotely. This session will be presented by the Learning Centre’s Duncan McHugh.

UBC Broadcast Email – Update on Campus Return Plan

In case you missed it, yesterday President Santa Ono issued a Broadcast email to students, faculty and staff. It provides an overall update on the status of fall planning related to teaching and learning, resumption of research, student housing, vaccinations and safety plans. As he notes, the university is working closely with public health officials at the provincial and regional levels on these plans in a rapidly changing environment.

There will be a university-wide page dedicated to COVID-19 updates as decisions are made over the coming months: covid19.ubc.ca. From here, you can link to Student FAQs, Faculty and Staff FAQs, and the Campus Return Plan.
