Level II Fume Hood Shut-down

This is a friendly reminder that there will be a level II Fume hood shut-down in the MacMillan building from May 2 to 22.

To all lab managers, please ensure that the checklist is filled out and posted on the fume hood by Friday, April 29.

The operations team will do a walk through to ensure all fume hoods are properly shutdown.

Funded PhD Position on “Agricultural practices and bee biodiversity” (LFS and SFU)

This unique PhD opportunity is intended to foster student engagement and training across the natural and social sciences. The advisory committee will consist of natural scientists and environmental economists and provide the student an opportunity to learn a diverse set of cross-disciplinary skills in these fields.

Students with training in quantitative ecology, ecological data science, and/or environmental studies are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants with a MSc in one of these disciplines are preferred, although students with only a BSc but with strong disciplinary overlap and excellent grades and references will also be considered to enter the fast track PhD option.

The student will be co-advised by Drs. Risa Sargent and Leithen M’Gonigle (https://www.sfu.ca/biology/faculty/M%27Gonigle/index.html).

Wellness Wednesdays: Understanding Mental Health Workshop

Understanding mental health can be difficult. Learning how to support someone who might be in a mental health crisis can be even more challenging. The goal of this session is to increase mental health literacy while providing tools and skills to respond effectively in a caring and respectful way.

This event is part of the 2022 Celebrate Learning Week.

The student perspective should always be centered in the planning, design and delivery of instruction. See the world through students’ eyes as we explore their experiences in UBC’s classrooms and hear their perspectives on how to create truly accessible learning engagements. Panelists will be drawn from the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses and will reflect a diversity of experiences and disciplines.

May 2 – The Transition Accelerator 2022 Transition Pathways – Research Funding Opportunity

The Transition Accelerator is looking to collaborate with researchers across the country interested in developing transformational pathways to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. To this end, they will be awarding small grants to support pathways scoping studies.

They seek submissions for projects that can help define credible, compelling, and capable pathways across Canada. These can be local, sub-regional, or regional in scope, and should be anchored in the Accelerator’s pathways methodology.

There is no formal application form, but applicants will need to submit a short project proposal by Monday, May 2, 2022.
