Today – Lunch & Learn Series: Making (and making the most of) media for courses with Duncan McHugh

Our next session will be held on Friday, August 26 2022 at noon. Duncan McHugh will be leading the session this week.

Want to start making videos, podcasts or other media for your courses? Want a refresher on how best to get that media in to your Canvas course?

For this week’s Lunch & Learn, the Learning Centre’s Media Producer, Duncan McHugh, will lead a discussion on media making, media posting/hosting, and what resources are available at UBC and within LFS to support this.

Join Duncan and the Learning Centre team to understand more about what you can do with media for your courses. To register for the Lunch & Learn Series, please visit https://ubc.zoom.us/meeting/register/u5cscumsqDwrG9OI5NHXco_FeqnmI0pzdWM1

Sept. 15 – Faculty Research Awards – call for nominations

UBC recognizes individual investigators who demonstrate excellence in research through a suite of seven annual research awards and fellowships that span all disciplines in the applied sciences, medicine, and social sciences and humanities.

Summary of changes in 2022:

  • The Killam Accelerator Research Fellowship and Killam Faculty Research Fellowship have new optional sections on Contextual Perspective (to provide understanding of the context of career trajectory or field of research) and Research Impact (to account for wide variations in the impacts of research across different disciplines, as well as in the indicators used to measure them).
  • Many award components have requested word limits rather than page limits.
  • There is a single nomination form for all awards, rather than a separate form for each one.

These awards have two nomination stages:

  1. Expression of Intent (EOI) due Thursday, September 15, 2022, 11:59 pm. This optional stage assists in planning and nominations can still be submitted if the EOI deadline is missed. Note: EOI not requested for Killam Accelerator Research Fellowships given the required Faculty-led nomination process.
  2. Full Nomination due Tuesday, November 15, 2022, 11:59 pm. All required components must be submitted through the nomination form, and Killam Faculty Research Fellowship referee letters must be received by ORPA.

Please also consult the FAQs and contact them with any questions: research.prizes@ubc.ca.
