Just a reminder that the Learning Centre is here to help

While we cannot be certain what the days and weeks ahead will bring we wanted to remind you that staff are available for consultations this week and the team will be back at full strength the first week of January. Jan. 20 – Financial Wellbeing Masterclass with Vanessa Bowen from Mint Worthy

UBC HR is holding a free, online Financial Wellbeing masterclass with Vanessa Bowen from Mint Worthy on January 20, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. for all faculty and staff. 

In this masterclass, participants will learn money management best practices including: 

  • How to create financial goals that are easy to stick to and achieve 
  • How to avoid common budgeting traps and create a budget that builds balance between wants and needs 
  • Simple ways to reduce your debts immediately 
  • How to create a savings plan that provides financial security and supports your short-term goals 
  • How to set weekly ‘money dates’ to ensure you stick to your plan and remain committed to your dreams.

Dec. 22 – Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF)

CFREF aims to boost the strengths of Canadian postsecondary institutions so that they can achieve global success in research areas that create long-term social and economic advantages for Canada. Each institution is limited to one application. The total funding envelope is $1.4 billion. There is no maximum funding request per application and funded projects receive seven years of funding.

As part of the UBC selection process, an Internal Notice of Intent must be submitted by December 22, 2021. For more information, including competition priority areas, please visit https://research.ubc.ca/cwl/CFREF.

 

 

 

Jan. 28 – Canadian Poultry Research Council (CPRC) call for LOIs

The Canadian Poultry Research Council (CPRC) is making a Call for Letters of Intent (LOIs) in support of poultry research in Canada.

Please submit your completed LOI in Word format to info@cp-rc.ca by 5:00 pm EST January 28, 2022. You will receive an email notification of receipt within two days of submitting your application. If you do not receive confirmation, please contact us.

Jan. 28 – Work Learn International Undergraduate Research Awards

Are you looking for funding to hire international undergraduate students to work full-time on your research for Summer 2022? The Work Learn International Undergraduate Research Awards provides an award subsidy to hire international undergraduate students to work on your research projects while allowing students to explore workplace and research skills. These awards are valued at $6,000 and are distributed across seven Faculties/Schools at UBC Vacouver Campus.

The Faculty of Land & Food Systems has Ten (10) WLIURAs available for 2022.
 
Program timeline:

  • Call for Research Project Proposals period: November 29, 2021 – January 28, 2022.
    • Note: Faculty members will need to submit a proposal(s) on UBC CareersOnline. A student can work with a faculty member to submit a proposal together. 
  • The Centre for Student Involvement and Careers (CIS&C) to send all research project proposals pertaining to the Faculty/School by Monday, February 7, 2022.
  • Deadline for Faculty/School offices to submit their list of funded proposals: Friday, February 25, 2022. 
  • CSI&C will send funding decisions to faculty members by Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
  • For faculty members who have not indicated an internal candidate for their position(s), it will be posted on UBC CareersOnline for students to apply from March 7 – 20, 2022.
