Exam hardships – guidance

As we enter a non-traditional exam season due to remote teaching, we have posted some guidance for exam offerings that deviate from the regular schedule because some instructors and programs are providing flexibility to accommodate students studying in different time zones. As these are challenging situations for both students and instructors, cooperation and sharing of responsibility is necessary. Please review the document titled Examination Hardships and Clashes – Interpretation guidance under non-traditional exam conditions. If you have any questions, contact Zhaoming Xu, Associate Dean, Academic at zhaoming.xu@ubc.ca.

LFS in the News

Jennifer Grenz, sessional instructor in LFS, was quoted in the Vancouver Sun today in a story titled, The original farmers: Interest in First Nations farming revival growing. Jennifer, who is Nlaka’pamux, talks about how Indigenous agriculture involves growing food for people in a way that’s respectful of the land and ecological reconciliation in a story about The Tsawwassen First Nation’s hands-on agriculture training program with Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Random Acts of Recognition

Congratulations to Random Acts of Recognition recipients:

The entire LFS Student Services (Thilini Leitan, Rob Kim, Joel Liman, Bonita Perko, Heather James, Ella Wong) team for pivoting their day on Dec 3 to devote all of their time and attention to respond to the Senate resolutions that were passed to extend the withdrawal deadline and make changes to term two.  They rallied together to make direct edits to their website with detailed FAQs, created an online request form for students, drafted the email message to all students that complemented the central messaging, added additional advising shifts to accommodate for student demand, and developed the process by which requests would be received, reviewed and processed.  Institutional shifts like these require a swift and coordinated response, often with little lead time and information released in stages.  The dedication of this team, regardless of portfolio, to collaborate on developing and implementing a comprehensive and student-centric approach to help students navigate these changes is unparalleled.  Your efforts and contributions are greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

To nominate a faculty member, staff or graduate student that’s been doing an outstanding job or has gone above and beyond in some way, send an email to lfs.recognition@ubc.ca and tell us why this person should be recognized. We’ll send them a $6 Starbucks gift card and acknowledge their good work in LFS Today.
