Feb. 17 – LFS Faculty Council Meeting

Just a note that there will be some curriculum proposals for review at the Faculty Council Meeting on Feb. 17 (noon-1 pm). This meeting will take place in hybrid format (MCML Room 342 + Zoom), and we’ll bring in guest speakers via Zoom. Melanie Train sent faculty members a Calendar invitation for the meeting but if you don’t have it, please let her know.

CTLT Resource: Updated Turnitin Tool Guide, and many more

The Learning Technology Hub has recently updated the Turnitin tool guide for instructors. That makes over 45 UBC Tool Guides to be created or refreshed since the start of the pandemic! UBC Tool Guides offer both faculty and students step-by-step instructions for using online teaching and learning tools. Feb. 14 – Show #UBCClimatelove

To kick-off Climate Emergency Week at UBC, UBC is lighting up Martha Piper Plaza Fountain on February 14. Bring your secret crush, significant other, or something in-between for this don’t miss Insta-opportunity to show some #UBCClimatelove on Valentine’s Day.

Why bother? We’re in a “Code Red” for humanity and all non-human beings on this planet. Climate Emergency Week is your opportunity to connect with other people on campus to show more love for ourselves, for each other, and for our planet. If that’s not enough, organic cotton/recycled tees, local chocolate, and other prizes await.

Feb. 22 – Anti-Racism Speaker Series

February 22, 4:30-6pm: Margaret P. Moss, PhD, JD, RN, FAAN, Associate Vice President Equity and Inclusion, Interim, previous Director of the First Nations House of Learning, and Associate Professor in the School of Nursing.  Dr. Moss is an enrolled member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation (Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota), and is also Dakhóta. She is the first and only American Indian to hold both nursing and juris doctorates, was appointed to the Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice (BPH) at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine and was one of two Indigenous women named on the inaugural Forbes 50 over 50 Impact List 2021.

These are part of a new Anti-Racism Speaker Series: Elevating the voices of Indigenous, Black and Persons of Colour (IBPOC), members of the Applied Science community will share how systems of oppression have impacted the lived experiences of IBPOC communities and how we can work together to create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive community.

April – IDRC Upcoming funding opportunity: Women RISE

A forthcoming call for proposals will be available to fund research teams under the Women RISE initiative (Women’s health and economic empowerment for a COVID-19 Recovery that is Inclusive, Sustainable and Equitable). This new initiative will support action-oriented research on how women’s health and their work (paid or unpaid) intersect and interact in the context of preparing for, responding to and recovering from COVID-19.

The launch of Women RISE is anticipated in March 2022. Concept notes and proposals are anticipated to be due in April 2022 and July 2022, respectively.
