Deregistration and Backup on Grades in Canvas

In December 2021, the Senate passed a motion on Academic Regulation: Compliance with Health Safety Requirements.  To implement the motion, students who are not in compliance will be deregistered from Winter Term 2 courses starting February 17, 2022.  It is strongly recommended that instructors download their Canvas gradebook BEFORE February 17, 2020 just in case they need the grades when students are re-registered in the course.

Steps for downloading Canvas Gradebook:

  1. Go to your Course Shell on Canvas;
  2. Click on Grades on the left hand menu;
  3. Click on “Actions” at the top of the screen and select “Export” from the dropdown menu;
  4. Upon clicking you will see a green message that says “Gradebook Export Started” . It will take a few seconds, the gradebook should be downloaded to your computer in .csv format.

In addition, you may also want to download other work that are in-progress (e.g., an assignment in-process of marking).  Please contact the Learning Center if you need assistance.

 Deadlines

Feb. 4 – GAC SEED Funding for ASEAN Students

The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program provides students, from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.

UBC’s Visiting International Research Students (VIRS) are eligible for the SEED funding (VIRS admit international full time college students to come to UBC to do research for a period between 1-12 months under the supervision of a UBC faculty). The VIRS pathway does not require institutional agreements between UBC and the students’ host institution. Students who wish to apply for SEED for the VIRS pathway need to submit document to UBC which will submit the application to GAC on the student’s behalf. In the case of VIRS, the UBC faculty member to serve as the students’ supervisor will need to fill in the host supervisor form, and students fill in the candidate information form. Both are attached.

GAC’s application deadline this year is March 4, and the internal UBC deadline is Feb 17 (extendable). GAC’s decision will be made in May, and selected students will need to arrive in Canada between Aug 1, 2022 and Feb 1, 2023. Scholarship values vary depending on the duration and level of study:

  • CAD 10,200 for college, undergraduate or graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a minimum of four months or one academic term of study or research;
  • CAD 12,700 for graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a period of five to six months of study or research; or
  • CAD 15,900 for undergraduate and college students for a period of eight months or two academic terms of study or research.
