Teaching Theory Thursday – Checking in with TAs

Have you checked in with your TAs lately? Like instructors, the role of the TA has changed significantly with the adoption of online learning technologies due to the pandemic. Read more about the impacts to teaching assistants here.

Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF)

We would like to thank Madi Fan (LFSUS VP Academic), Lindsay Cuff, and Jean-Thomas Cornelis for serving on the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) internal LFS committee and offering valuable feedback to improve the proposals.

This year, the following TLEF proposals are funded:

  • Gabriel Smith, “Flexible Assessment Integration with Canvas Gradebook”, $18,300
  • Sumeet Gulati,  “Filling the gaps for new program development: Four new FRE courses”, $27,059
  • Maja Krzic, “Exploring Agroforestry Practices to Restore Degraded Soils in Kenya Through a Multimedia Case Study”, $49,980

The application process of some teaching and learning funds for 2023/2024 will begin as early as June; see a list of potential funding opportunities here: https://lc.landfood.ubc.ca/funding-and-awards/. If you have ideas to improve the learning of our LFS students and would like support to prepare a proposal, please contact the Learning Centre.

Mar. 7 – Summer TA Positions – Application Opens

Yes, it’s time to think about the Summer terms of 2022…

The LFS TA Application will be open for 10 business days only, to accept applications for Summer 2022 TAships for all Summer terms.

  • The TA App will be open from Mon., March 7th, 2022 at 9:30am through Fri., March 18th, 2022 at 4:30pm.

After it closes March 18th at 4:30pm, application is by instructor or administrator invitation only.

If you are off-campus you must use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access the website.

Apr. 26 – NFRF Call to Support Research for Post-Pandemic Recovery

New Frontiers in Research Fund has launched Special Call: “Research for Post-Pandemic Recovery,” aiming to mobilize Canadian-led research efforts in support of a more equitable, sustainable and resilient post-pandemic reality. A commitment of $24 million has been assigned for this special call to support two-year grants valued at up to $500,000.

Notice of intent deadline: 26 April, 2022.
