Farm innovation funding hinges on carbon question

Proving that Canadian farmers are contributing to Canada’s climate change goals will be important in the next Agricultural Policy Framework and the innovation and development funding that flows out of it, according to Marco Valicenti, the director-general of Agriculture Canada’s innovation program funding.

Bio: Patrick received his B.Sc. degree from the University of Waterloo in Environmental Science, Ecology. During his B.Sc. degree, he worked with the UW Hydrometeorology Research Group and was responsible for the maintenance and data collection from remote EC and weather stations in the northern boreal. Then he completed his M.Sc. at UBC with the Biometeorology and Soil Physics Group studying GHG fluxes over a blueberry field on Westham Island. He now continues his studies as a PhD student measuring the GHG balance of an intensively managed forage field in Agassiz.

Jan. 15 – Reconciliation in Animal Welfare

RAWS is the first virtual Reconciliation in Animal Welfare Symposium and aims to lead those who work in animal welfare to a deeper, authentic understanding of the history of Indigenous Peoples and the legacy of colonialism and intergenerational trauma in Canada. This symposium is a combination of full-day workshops and speaker events, providing animal welfare organizations and individuals with the opportunity to better understand Indigenous history and lived experiences, aiding in the integration of reconciliation personally and organizationally within the animal welfare sector and, most importantly, with Indigenous partners.
