LFS in the News

Sean Smukler was quoted in an article about the need for climate resilient agriculture in B.C.: “We have to get going now or else we’re just going to be in a reactionary mode constantly, and reactionary mode is going to be so costly, much more costly than if we were being proactive and planning out a viable future.” CBC

Tentative 2022 Vacation Schedules

We encourage all units to start thinking about their tentative vacation plans for 2022 and submit their schedules to their supervisors by February 28, 2022.  This assists units in managing absences and planning for future staffing needs to ensure service and support are maintained for the Faculty.  We ask directors of the units to submit these tentative vacation plans to the Dean’s Office by March 31, 2022.  The Tentative Vacation Plan Summary template document will be emailed out to Core Team members.

New resource curates Indigenous professional development opportunities

Introducing a new resource for UBC faculty and staff searching for Indigenous-focused professional development opportunities.

The Indigenous Portal features a new page that gathers facilitated and self-directed learning opportunities to create a clear foundation for individuals at the university to begin walking along the path towards action.

Launched in consultation with HR, CTLT, and the First Nations House of Learning, the resource consolidates workshops, modules, and Indigenous units across campus to support faculty and staff in deepening their knowledge and level of engagement with Indigenous initiatives at UBC.
