GRS Alumna Wins Alumni Builder Award
Congrats to Veronika Bylicki (BSc GRS ’17) who won a UBC Alumni Builder Award. Veronika is Executive Director & Co-Founder of CityHive. Her passion for creating more sustainable cities embodies the vision of LFS. She builds pathways for young voices to be heard and for youth to engage in innovative civic programming. Challenging the status quo, Veronika has developed and implemented a dynamic curriculum on sustainability leadership for high school students, focusing both on personal development and addressing urban challenges. |

Rob Kim voted one of LinkedIn’s Top Voice
Huge congratulations to Rob Kim for being voted as one of LinkedIn’s Top Voices for Job Search and Careers for the US and Canada markets!
Rob’s dedication and contributions to the platform have been recognized; he creates inspiring and engaging posts, draws on his own experience to give great advice, and (beneficial for us) shares the LFS story and the strengths of his work within the Faculty to increase exposure to career education and improve career literacy with our students.
On top of that, Rob and Dietetics student Elena Kwan have recently announced a new podcast called Career Carrots. In this 11 episode series, Rob and Elena will bring in a student and professional perspective on careers, tell their own experiences and share some useful tips. Episode “zero” is out now – listen to it on Spotify and Apple. |

Jan. 31 to Apr. 3 – Walk for Joy
Registration is now open so you can either join individually or put a team together made up of your colleagues, come up with a team name and then sign up before January 30, 2022. Registration can be done individually or as a team. If your team captain has filled out the form on behalf of your team, then there is no need to fill out the form again.
Walk for Joy has waived the registration fee. Instead, they are asking that participants make a donation to this year’s charitable beneficiary, the Indian Residential School Survivors Society. Donations can be made at www.irsss.ca/donate and recorded here.

Apr & July – IDRC Upcoming funding opportunity: Women RISE
A forthcoming call for proposals will be available to fund research teams under the Women RISE initiative (Women’s health and economic empowerment for a COVID-19 Recovery that is Inclusive, Sustainable and Equitable). This new initiative will support action-oriented research on how women’s health and their work (paid or unpaid) intersect and interact in the context of preparing for, responding to and recovering from COVID-19.
The launch of Women RISE is anticipated in March 2022. Concept notes and proposals are anticipated to be due in April 2022 and July 2022, respectively.
