LFS in the News

Yangfan Zhang and Tony Farrell were featured in several articles about their new study which found that respiratory performance of wild Pacific sockeye salmon functions normally even when infected with piscine orthoreovirus (PRV). On their findings, Yangfan shared: “We saw little to no effect on sockeye salmon’s respiratory fitness after PRV-infection and minimal impacts on their ability to sustain the vigorous activity needed to migrate, catch prey and avoid predators.”

This is a problem-based learning course that examines the techniques, including continuous improvement methods, needed to implement a food safety and quality system in a food manufacturing facility. Sanitation is an area of focus because of its link to significant foodborne outbreaks.

Please email me, Rebecca Robertson, at rebecca.robertson@ubc.ca if you are interested in this TA position.

Teaching Theory Thursday

 “Make self-reflection a part of the end of the term teaching process.
Self-reflection helps you retain the insights you’ve gained along the way as you have been teaching the current course,
and it will inspire you to seek out new approaches;
you’ll feel more comfortable, confident, and engaged next semester.”
