Canadians hoping to avoid the worst of soaring food prices might want to cut back on caesar salad, buttered toast and mac and cheese. Lettuce, butter and pasta — key ingredients for these perennial favourites — are among the foods with the highest price spikes over the past year.

Potential Change to your name in Canvas and other services

UBC recently updated how learning technology systems at UBC determine what name to display for you. As a result, a small percentage of people will see their names automatically updated in Canvas and other systems.

We know names are important and personal. Here’s how you can check your preferred name or adjust how your name is displayed:

  • Grants4Ag: Space biology exploration at Biosphere 2
    Conduct fundamental plant science research in a space-simulating environment
    Funding: Funding is proposal-dependent and typically ranges from $5,000 to $15,000. Prior recipients have used the funding for contract research, personnel, equipment and other purchases. Indirect costs are not included.
  • Grants4Ag: Climate solutions through plant modifications
    Enable carbon sequestration or removal in cereals, legumes and pulses relying on the use of gene editing or transgenes
    Funding: $5,000-$10,000. Funds will be in the form of a credit towards transformation work at the Wisconsin Crop Innovation Center. The final amount and scope of work will be based on discussions between the selected project teams, WCIC and the Bayer team.
  • Grants4Ag: Enabling technologies for plant transformation
    Develop new plant transformation technologies for row crops, particularly monocots
    Funding: $5,000 to $15,000. Prior recipients have used the funding for contract research, personnel, equipment and other purchases. Indirect costs are not included.

Aug. 17 – Advance Knowledge in Health Research, Care, Systems or Outcomes

CIHR’s Project Grant program is designed to capture ideas with the greatest potential for important advances in fundamental or applied health-related knowledge, health care, health systems, and/or health outcomes by supporting projects of research proposed and conducted by individual researchers or groups of researchers in all areas of health. The best ideas may stem from new, incremental, innovative, and/or high-risk lines of inquiry or knowledge translation approaches.

Register by August 17. Full application due September 14.
