Welcome new faculty!

We are pleased to welcome several new faculty members as of July 1:

Bruna Donatti Castro Falci – Lecturer in Dietetics Education. Bruna completed an MSc in Human Nutrition in 2021 from McGill University. She is a registered dietitian, with several years of clinical experience and teaching experience. She most recently worked as a clinical dietitian at the McGill University Health Center.

Amelia MacRae – Lecturer in Animal Welfare. Amelia completed a PhD in Applied Animal Biology in 2018 and has taught as a Sessional Lecturer in our Applied Biology Program and Forestry since 2019.

Jay Martiniuk – Lecturer in Wine Science and Fermentation. Jay completed an MSc in Food Science in 2020 and has taught as both a Sessional Lecturer and Guest Lecturer in our Faculty. He has been employed as Associate Director, Quality Assurance at Willow Analytics since 2020.

David Wright – Professor in Exercise, Metabolism, Nutrition & Health, joint appointment with the School of Kinesiology, Faculty of Education (67%) (home department) and Food Nutrition and Health (33%). David started June 15 and also holds a concurrent appointment as an investigator within the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR). He most recently held a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Lipids, Metabolism and Health at the University of Guelph (2010-2020).

If you are hosting a visitor or two (or even a small delegation), St. John’s College will be happy to offer a 20% discount for bookings made up until January 31, 2023. The rate includes breakfast in our beautiful Dining Hall (except Saturdays), access to laundry facilities, and frequent linen changes. Dinner may be purchased for an extra cost at the Dining Hall.

July 13 – Retirement Celebration for Christine Scaman and David McArthur

Please join us as we celebrate Christine Scaman and David McArthur’s retirement! It will be a casual open house held in the FNH Atrium/patio – Wednesday, July 13th from 3:30 – 5:00pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Deadlines

July 7 – Job Posting: Interim Academic Director, Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre (IRSHDC)

Professor Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond (Aki-Kwe) will be stepping down from the position of Academic Director, Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre (IRSHDC), on June 30, 2022.

The University is now looking for a tenured or tenure-track faculty member to take up this important role. The deadline for applications is end of day Thursday, July 7, 2022.
