Accepting Winter 2022-2023 Work Learn Proposals until June 20

In developing your proposal to hire a Winter Work Learn Student for the period of September 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023, please follow closely the recommendations found in the WL Submission Guide. The more questions you answer, the better your chances are for obtaining funding. Of equal importance is adhering to the Winter 2022 Position Classification Guide, which outlines the general job descriptions and pay scale ranges.  Work Learn positions are part-time hourly appointments and must fit within the rate and conditions outlined in the Position Classification Guide. There are two ways to submit a proposal:

  1. Complete the LFS online internal application form. You’ll receive a confirmation receipt soon after your submission. Mona Lee will then review your proposal and offer suggestions before she submits it to the Work Learn Office on your behalf. The internal deadline for proposals is 12:00 pm on Friday, June 10, 2022.  Should you miss this deadline, please refer to Bullet #2 for instructions.
  2. Submit your proposal directly to the Work Learn Program via the UBC CareersOnline (employer) portal before the 11:59 pm external deadline on Monday, June 20, 2022. If you choose this option, you must create an account and list Mona Lee as the administrator in the submission form. This way, Mona is notified if your submission is approved for funding. Here is a Step-by-Step Guide on how to submit your proposal yourself.  You will not receive a confirmation receipt upon submission. Note: Mona won’t be providing feedback and won’t be able to make any changes for you.

June 4 – Tla Yahda – Making It Right: Repatriation Ethics, A Haida View

MOA is honoured to welcome Sdahl Ḵ’awaas, Lucy Bell of the Haida Nation, who will reflect on the issues surrounding repatriation and museum practices, as well as the decisions and actions that led to successful repatriations and the ethical issues museums must face along the path to reconciliation.

Lucy and the Haida Repatriation Committee have returned over 500 of their Kuniisii’s—their Ancestors’—remains from many global museums. In her more than 30 years working with museums, Lucy has seen museums struggle to repatriate and make things right.
