Today – Pi(e) Day Fundraiser!

A reminder that our Pi(e) Day Fundraiser is happening today.

Everyone is welcome to drop by the Dean’s Office between 10am and 3pm and help yourself to a slice of pie! Minimum $3 donation per slice, or 2 for $5!

All proceeds will go to the AMS Food Bank this year.

Mar. 21 – IAFNS Webinar: Communicating the Science of Caffeine 

Join IAFNS and the International Food Information Council (IFIC) on March 21st from 1:00-2:30pm ET for a webinar on communicating the science of caffeine. This webinar is designed for practitioners who seek to enhance their understanding of the science of caffeine, respond to consumer perceptions related to its safety, and communicate evidence-based messaging to consumers.

Mar. 15 – Job Posting: Indigenous Foodlands Conservation – Postdoctoral Research Position

The Working Group on Indigenous Food Sovereignty (WGIFS) is seeking a postdoctoral Researcher to work with the Research Curator, Circle of Indigenous Experts, and Project Team to research concepts, cases and conversations, and advocate for the establishment of Indigenous Foodland Conservation Areas. The researcher will  assist with coordinating the research team and participants, conducting oral history interviews, and conducting literature reviews to inform the development of decolonizing food system research matrix, concept papers, and articles. The research matrix will chart a transformative pathway to broaden the ecological and cultural scope and scale of foodlands conservation,  Indigenous Protected Conservation Areas, and nature based planning to be inclusive of subsistence hunting, fishing, farming and gathering.

Mar. 21 – Youth Employment and Skills Program (YESP) Now Accepting Applications

The Youth Employment and Skills Program (YESP) delivered by Agriculture and Agri-food Canada is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 program year. Applications will be accepted between February 28, 2022 and March 21, 2022.

The Youth Employment and Skills Program will contribute approximately $3.7 million in wage subsidies to employers who hire youth (between the age of 15 and 30 inclusive) for agricultural jobs. Projects may start as early as April 1, 2022 and end no later than March 31, 2023.

New this year, the program will focus on youth facing employment barriers. The list of barriers is as follows:

  • Indigenous
  • living with a physical disability
  • living with a diagnosed mental health disability
  • visible minorities
  • recent immigrant
  • residing in a remote location
  • living in a low income household
  • single parent
  • early school leaver

Applicants will be limited to 2 applications unless additional funding is received by the program.  Application intake will close midnight on March 21, 2022.
