Teaching Theory Thursday

Deliberately build self-efficacy through scaffolded assignment design.
Create low- or no-stake assignments so that students can practice the content as well as using the various technologies and be more comfortable when assessed in higher stake ways.

Walk for Joy is Back for a Summer Edition!

The Walk for Joy Committee has worked hard to move this event to be completely virtual and it was a success earlier in the year so it’s back for the summer!  This spring/summer challenge will run for 9 weeks starting next Monday, May 17th, 2021 and will run until July 16th, 2021!

Important points to know about this event:

  • As with the annual event, this will also be a nine week challenge.
  • Dates will be Monday, May 17th to Sunday, July 18th.
  • This will be an individual event, so there is no need to create a team in order to participate.
  • Only actual steps will be collected – once again, there will be no social steps included in your weekly totals.
  • There will be no Hidden Gems challenge during this version of Walk for Joy.
  • Participants will submit weekly step totals every Monday, just like the regular Walk for Joy event.
  • Participants will receive a weekly email with a reminder to submit your steps, as well as some motivational tips and resources to keep you moving!
  • Prizes will be provided for the top performers, as well as some random draws. There will be a variety of prizes from Lululemon, North Face, Fjallraven and more!

If you have already indicated your interest in taking part in this extra event, there is nothing else you need to do – just start keeping track of your steps as of this upcoming Monday, May 17th, and submit your weekly numbers every Monday.

If you have yet to register, please click here and fill out the registration form. Registration will close Monday, May 17th at 10am.

Explore the Future of the Food Business

Arrell Food Business and Technology Forum 2021 will digitally bring together members of the food value chain — from food production, distribution, retailing and technology suppliers — and academia to explore the future of the food business and provide insight into Smart Retailing (SR)’s current and future impacts on the Canadian food sector.

SR is the use of technology to shape interactions between shopper and retailer. SR is already having a significant impact on food quality, food safety, labeling, efficiencies and labour in the food retail space and supply chain.

This digital Forum will serve as a sneak preview to a full-day Forum in 2022, which Arrell Food Institute hopes to host in-person.
