Update: Return to Campus Planning

UBC issued a broadcast email on May 17 following Santa Ono’s announcement on April 20 about return to campus planning.

The recent broadcast email shared a link to a townhall held at Thompson Rivers University where Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry responded to questions from senior post-secondary leaders. During this event, she answered questions on subjects ranging from mask wearing to classroom safety, to HVAC systems, medical accommodations and more.

The provincial government also recently published the COVID-19 Return-to-Campus Primer (https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/education/post-secondary-education/institution-resources-administration/return-to-campus-primer.pdf). This document provides information about the key public health planning assumptions and safety measures necessary to safely guide our planning over the coming months. New revised COVID-19 Go-Forward Guidelines for B.C.’s Post-Secondary Sector will also be made available to the post-secondary sector in early summer for implementation by August.

Workshops: Faculty of Applied Science

The Faculty of Applied Science is offering two workshops for faculty that are focused on Indigenizing curriculum and creating inclusive workplaces. Faculty and instructors from LFS are invited to join!

Indigenous Initiatives Design Series
We have a special opportunity to work with CTLT on a workshop designed specifically for the Faculty of Applied Science. The goal of the workshops is to create space for faculty who come to Indigenous topics with different levels of knowledge and expertise to share practices, redesign elements of their teaching and learning projects and resources, model and explore educational materials, and apply classroom climate principles to everyday learning design situations. Through interactive, blended synchronous and asynchronous activities and peer-to-peer discussion, we will take a closer look at classroom climate, instructor/student positionality, and place. To participate or learn more, click here.

Participants should plan to attend all three parts of the workshop:

  1. Tuesday, June 1 at 9:00am-12:00pm Session 1
  2. Thursday, June 3 at 1:00pm-4:00pm Session 2
  3. Tuesday, June 8 at 9:00am-12:00pm Design Lab

Due to the limited capacity for the program, completion of this application is a requirement to be considered for participation.

Applications must be completed by Wednesday, May 26 at 5:00pm.

Inclusive Innovation Workshop
You are invited to take part in an innovative, federally funded gender equality research project on advancing inclusion in the workplace. The Faculty of Applied Science has joined an exciting new partnership with leading research scientists to conduct and assess the efficacy of a virtual workshop designed to improve workplace experiences and promote professional success by cultivating an inclusive culture. The research includes a 3.5-hour virtual workshop hosted over Zoom, with surveys before and after. The workshop and surveys cover topics related to organizational values, gender and ethnic diversity in teams, effective communication, and promoting an inclusive culture through allyship.
