Having a chat moderator in a hybrid class can reduce your cognitive load by giving you one less thing to worry about while you are teaching. If you do not have the TA hours for this task, try deputizing a student to moderate for you.

Toward More Equitable Faculty Service: Recommendations towards Recognizing, Valuing, and Making Service Visible at UBC
In this report, supported by UBC’s Equity Enhancement Fund, we examined how faculty service is understood, recognized, and rewarded in tenure and promotion (T&P) and merit/PSA at UBC, with a particular focus on the Faculties of Arts and Education. This study was undertaken as a response to concerns voiced by faculty members—especially those who are Indigenous, racialized, women, and otherwise equity-deserving—regarding a perceived lack of fairness, recognition, support, and clarity in how the service work they do relates to decisions regarding T&P and merit/PSA allocations.

The Student Transition and Engagement Advisor is responsible for providing and assessing academic advising services, and supporting the development and implementation of programs that contribute to the academic success, personal development and retention of undergraduate students in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS). This role collaborates with the LFS Student Services team and students to design, maintain, and manage the online Canvas content and programming for LFS ROOTSS (Reach Out, Orientation, Transition and Study Skills), an online program that supports new students in their transition to and in their first-year in the Faculty. To be successful in this role, an applicant must be interested in enhancing the student experience.
