REMINDER: Final Grades are PAST DUE

Reminder to all instructors to be mindful of grade submission deadlines for term 2 courses; as per the FSC User Guide, page 16, grades are due 7 business days after exam date, unless the exam occurs within last 2 days of the exam period – then, the grades are due within 5 calendar days.  Adherence to these deadlines is critical for processing of graduation applications, sessional evaluations, award adjudications, etc. Also, if you are supervising students with any outstanding Directed Studies, Undergrad Thesis, practicum, etc. please be sure to have those grades submitted to lfs.advising@ubc.ca.

ALL grades should be posted to students’ files or sent to LFS Student Services no later than Friday, May 6, 2022.

‘Change of Grade’ forms for when grades need to be changed can be generated via the FSC and sent as an attachment to lfs.advising@ubc.ca.

If you are emailing Student Services directly with a request to update or post a grade, please include all of the following details:

  1. Student name
  2. Student number
  3. Course name & number
  4. Session when the course was completed
  5. Previous grade (if applicable)
  6. New grade

Thank you for your cooperation.  Please do not hesitate to contact Student Services (lfs.advising@ubc.ca) with any questions.

Share your feedback in the Remote Work Survey

All faculty and staff across UBC are invited to share their feedback in the Remote Work Survey. Whether you work remotely/hybrid or on-site, the survey is an opportunity for all faculty and staff – including leaders – to share their experiences.

You can access the survey here: https://hr.ubc.ca/workplace-surveys

The survey will take 5-10 minutes to complete and responses will be confidential.

Your feedback in this survey will help the university consider how future work arrangements will continue to make UBC an inspiring place for students to learn, for faculty and staff to research, teach and work, and for leaders to understand how to support their teams.

The survey closes end of day on Monday, May 10.

Random Acts of Recognition

Congratulations to Random Acts of Recognition recipients:

Gabriel Smith and Sahil Sahibole for their support during a paperless, in-person exam.

Deborah Wang and Daphne Wang for all their hard work in the LFS Finance Office.

To nominate a faculty member, staff or graduate student that’s been doing an outstanding job or has gone above and beyond in some way, send an email to lfs.recognition@ubc.ca and tell us why this person should be recognized. We’ll send them a $6 Starbucks gift card and acknowledge their good work in LFS Today.

May 11 – Equity & Inclusion Scholars Program Panel: Interventions Toward Inclusive Teaching

This event is part of the 2022 Celebrate Learning Week.

The Equity & Inclusion Scholars program has funded six projects across disciplines to develop and test innovative approaches for building capacity for transformative teaching and learning through the integration of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in teaching related scholarship. The range of projects include curricula development, instructional practice, capacity-building and assessment, as they intersect with EDI in teaching and learning. Project teams will share how their work, as part of the E&I Scholars Program, holds the potential to enhance the experiences of students who are historically or currently marginalized or excluded from higher education, and how their interventions can be applied to formal teaching practice to related disciplines, and are collaborative and build on existing resources and expertise on campus.
