Random Acts of Recognition

Congratulations to the LFS Faculty Timetabling Reps (TReps) Melody Wang (undergrad: FNH, FRE, LFS, GRS w/ Christine), Dan Naidu (undergrad: APBI), Iris Li and Shelley Small (grad courses) on getting the 2022 Winter Session schedule ready for publication. There are a few new faces in the TRep community who have been investing a great deal of time and effort to learn the system and immediately apply that learning in support of all programs, instructors and our students to ensure an accurate schedule and timely communication. The work that goes in to preparing the timetable is substantial and requires a deep understanding of complex systems and policies, and they have all been doing a fantastic job. Thank you for your continued and collaborative efforts!

To nominate a faculty member, staff or graduate student that’s been doing an outstanding job or has gone above and beyond in some way, send an email to lfs.recognition@ubc.ca and tell us why this person should be recognized. We’ll send them a $6 Starbucks gift card and acknowledge their good work in LFS Today.

3 days left to share your feedback in the Remote Work Survey

All faculty and staff across UBC are invited to share their feedback in the Remote Work Survey. Whether you work remotely/hybrid or on-site, the survey is an opportunity for all faculty and staff – including leaders – to share their experiences.

You can access the survey here: https://hr.ubc.ca/workplace-surveys

The survey will take 5-10 minutes to complete and responses will be confidential.

Your feedback in this survey will help the university consider how future work arrangements will continue to make UBC an inspiring place for students to learn, for faculty and staff to research, teach and work, and for leaders to understand how to support their teams.

The survey closes end of day on Tuesday, May 10.

Communicable Disease Prevention Framework

UBC will replace the current seven institutional safety plans with a Communicable Disease Prevention Framework that covers all campus activities, effective May 1st, 2022. More information can be found on the Safety & Risk Services website. For any feedback or comments on the Communicable Disease Prevention Framework, please reach out to your SRS resource, or to safety.risk@ubc.ca.

As a reminder, masks are required in all indoor public spaces on UBC campuses. Students, faculty and staff taking part in academic activities outside of university campuses are still required to wear a mask if mandated by the location; for example, in health care settings.

For any COVID-19 or communicable disease inquiries, please send an email to safety.risk@ubc.ca as we are transitioning out of ready.ubc@ubc.ca.

Working Together to Prevent Bullying and Harassment

Bullying or harassment is objectionable and unwanted behaviour that is verbally or physically abusive, vexatious or hostile, that is without reasonable justification, and that creates a hostile or intimidating environment for working, learning or living (see the expectations in the UBC Respectful Environment Statement)

UBC Ergonomics Information

UBC’s ergonomics program is available for individual ergonomics assessment of your workspace. The goal of the assessment is to improve your comfort and reduce your risk of musculoskeletal injury while working. You can learn more about ergonomics resources at UBC,  request a virtual ergonomics assessment of your work place from UBC, or contact our LFS Ergonomics specialist at duncan.mchugh@ubc.ca.
