Importance of the BC Agriculture Sector Highlighted in New Study

BC Agriculture Council (BCAC) and Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC (IAF) completed an economic impact study that illustrates the significant role of agriculture in the province. Agriculture contributes to 55,000 full-time equivalent jobs, $8.5B in outputs, and $3.9B in GDP to B.C. Not only is the sector a core component of the province’s economy, it can play a major role in helping the province weather and recover from the pandemic-induced economic downturn, particularly in rural communities.

Triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns about food supply and the environment is on the minds of many British Columbians. The report contains multiple case studies that describe some of the solutions that the agriculture sector provides to some key public issues.
