LFS in the News

Alexandra Protopopova is featured in an article about how climate change will affect the way that humans take care of their companion animals. On changing climate and its affect on diseases, Alexandra says: “Because animals, such as dogs, are hosts to several zoonotic agents, any changes in the home ranges of viruses or parasites due to the changing climate will also have health outcomes for not only those animals — but perhaps also for people.” Salon

Lunch & Learn Series: Mid-Course Feedback

This session will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at noon. Adrian Granchelli of LFS Learning Centre will lead the discussion this week.

This week, we will look into effective ways to collect student input in the form of Mid-Course Feedback. Mid-course feedback is a great way to get insights on how the course is progressing and if students need a different approach to help them learn better. LFS has now made it mandatory for all courses to collect Mid-Course Feedback and The Learning Centre has made two forms you can adopt for your course. We encourage instructors to bring their stories and experiences of how mid-course feedback has helped them in the past and how they plan on using it this year.

**The Lunch & Learn Sessions can now also be attended in-person on Fridays at MCML 350**

Join us this Friday, virtually or in-person, with your experiences in collecting and implementing mid-course feedback. To register for this session, please visit https://ubc.zoom.us/meeting/register/u5cscumsqDwrG9OI5NHXco_FeqnmI0pzdWM1

Teaching Theory Thursday

Mid-Course Feedback

“When teachers get rating results after the course has concluded, the students who gave the feedback don’t see any follow-up. In some cases, they see teachers who they (and many other students) have evaluated poorly continue to teach as they always have. These students then conclude that the feedback they provided wasn’t taken seriously by the teacher or the institution. When a teacher talks about evaluation results with students, it’s a visible demonstration their feedback has value and that can motivate students to offer more specific feedback.”
