Random Acts of Recognition
Congratulations to Random Acts of Recognition recipients:

LFS in the News
Jennifer Black and Corey McAuliffe in the faculty of applied science, spoke about their recent paper which examined the associations between food worry and mental health during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. On next steps, Jennifer shared: “This is the time to ask our leaders about how they are going to ensure that all Canadians have both enough income and access to the basic necessities of life, which this research reminds us is essential for physical and mental wellbeing.” Times of Oman
Jennifer also spoke about their research on Spice Radio.

2022/23 Grants for Catalyzing Research Clusters Competition
This competition is open to emerging and established clusters of research excellence in all disciplines on the Vancouver campus, and we welcome applications from both previously funded and new clusters. Applicants may select a budget term of one or two years. Cluster leads must submit a notice of intent to apply through the VP Research & Innovation’s enhanced online application system at https://apply.research.ubc.ca by November 1, 2021.

Grants are enabled by the UBC Vancouver Academic Excellence Funds in support of Research Excellence Strategy 6 (Collaborative Clusters) in UBC’s strategic plan.
GCRC competitions are open to clusters led by researchers at our Vancouver campus. Clusters being led by researchers at our Okanagan campus are supported through the Eminence program https://research.ok.ubc.ca/faculty-staff/eminence.html.

France Canada Research Fund
The France Canada Research Fund aims to support developing new expert partnerships between France and Canada by promoting researcher mobility. UBC will pre-select a maximum of 5 proposals. To be considered for UBC’s internal selection, researchers must email their applications directly to the French Embassy in Ottawa (assistant.science@ambafrance-ca.org) with copy to UBC’s FCRF correspondent, Heather Frost (heather.frost@ubc.ca) by November 12, 2021.
Amount: Up to $15,000 Duration: 2 years

October 19-20, 2021
The 4th Food Structure and Functionality Symposium – Structuring Foods for a Sustainable World will bring together renowned speakers from academia and industry – the people that push the boundaries in food research and production.
Presentations will describe developments in food structure design and functionality that confront the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
