Reminder: Course Expense Fund Requests – due October 15th

Teaching an undergraduate course in Term 2 (Jan-April 2022)?
Send in your detailed course expense requests now.

Email your completed form to virginia.frankian@ubc.ca by October 15th.

All course expenses must be requested and approved prior to the start of each term.

Expendable laboratory supplies, field trip expenses, and other expenses directly addressing course learning objectives are eligible. Parking expenses for guest speakers, etc. should be included.
 
To be reimbursed, expenses must be itemized and pre-approved or your claim will not be processed.

Form and details are available at “LFS Teaching Funds Policy and Course Fees” , under “1) Undergraduate Course Expenses Fund”. The link for the Course Expenses Fund form is in this section. Note that students should not be charged course fees for any LFS courses.

ISLFS PhD Student Wins Laserre-Renzetti Prize

Congratulations to ISLFS PhD student Tatiana Zárate, who won the Laserre-Renzetti Prize for best paper presented by a student at a the Annual Conference of the Canadian Resource & Environmental Economists Association.

Anti-Oppression Fundamentals by Bakau Consulting 

Wednesday, October 27, 1:30 – 3:30 on Zoom

The Faculty of Applied Science is joining with Mechanical Engineering to offer an online workshop from Bakau Consulting. “Fundamentals of Anti-Oppression” is a two-hour synchronous workshop, and is presented with partial support from the UBC Anti-Racism Initiative fund. 

Fundamentals of Anti-oppression dives deeper than your typical diversity and inclusion workshop. Participants will explore systemic oppression, social justice, privilege, identity, and allyship through various engaging activities in this workshop. Through self-reflection, community-based inquiry, lessons from history, and collaborative problem solving, participants gain the knowledge and skills to view the world through an anti-oppressive lens.

IOF Webinar: Sustainable food systems & aquatic foods – Today

Towards sustainable, resilient and just food systems and the role of aquatic foods

In this webinar, they will bring together leading experts with a range of expertise in and perspectives on food systems to share their knowledge about and vision for sustainable, resilient and just food systems. The webinar will also provide a forum to discuss responses and actions that are needed at individual, community and governmental levels to address this important topic.

The webinar will be followed by a Q&A and discussion between the speakers, invited community partners, and seminar participants.

Academic Integrity Week

October 18-22

For the first time, UBC will be hosting Academic Integrity Week. This week aims to draw attention to academic integrity and engage the entire community in ongoing conversations. During the week we will host a presentation by Canada’s academic integrity expert Dr. Sarah Elaine Eaton (University of Calgary) as well as opportunities for community engagement around key academic integrity questions.

Academic Integrity Week at UBC coincides with the International Day of Action Against Contract Cheating (October 20) and BC Academic Integrity Day (October 15).
