LFS Faculty Council Meeting

The LFS Faculty Council Meeting (for faculty and sessionals) will take place on Thursday, October 14 at 12:00 – 1:00 pm in person and by Zoom. Please note there will be curriculum discussion at the meeting so we would like to encourage you to attend. More details will follow.  Please mark your calendar.

LFS Welcome Back Event – Sept. 24

Remember to save the date for Friday, September 24 from 3-5pm as we welcome faculty, staff and grad students back to campus!

This year’s event will feature local food trucks and vendors (Tamaly-Shop, Via Tevere Pizza, Ay! Mamacita, and BAK’D), a pop-up market, and a presentation from Dean Rickey Yada.

Register by donating a minimum of $5 to United Way. The registration link will be sent out this week.

Indigenous Strategic Initiatives (ISI) Fund

The Indigenous Strategic Initiatives (ISI) Fund supports implementation of the 2020 Indigenous Strategic Plan. Funds are available to support projects that advance UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan priority actions across both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

Funding is allocated across three streams with amounts ranging from $30K for new initiatives that have impact at the faculty or unit level, to $250K for multi-year projects that have the potential for transformative impact at the institutional level. Up to $4 million in support is now available.

The creation of the Fund was Indigenous-led with collaboration across both campuses, coordinated by the Office of Indigenous Strategic Initiatives (OISI). The process was shaped by the ISP Guiding Network, an innovative and Indigenous human rights-based structure for guiding implementation of the plan.

Key Dates:

• Letter of Intent (LOI) deadline for Streams 1 and 2: Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.
• Application deadline for Stream 3 (Student-led projects): Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.
• Application deadline for Streams 1 and 2: Summer 2022

The Province is hosting a virtual regenerative agriculture and agritech conference: regenBC. Join us to hear from experts and learn how combining regenerative agriculture and agritech can help farmers, food security and the environment.

regenBC will feature keynotes each night, followed by simultaneous streams of deeper-dive talks and panels.
