Save the date! LFS Welcome back event – Sept. 23
The Faculty is hosting a Welcome back event and invites all LFS faculty, staff and graduate students to attend. This is a chance to reconnect with colleagues and get to know our graduate students. The location will be at UBC Farm’s events field. The popular food trucks will make a return this year!

2022 Winter Term 1 Final Exam Requests
Are you teaching a course in Term 1 of the Winter 2022 Session?
If so, please complete our Examination Request Survey to indicate whether or not an exam will be required for your course(s) no later than 12:00pm on Thursday, September 15. It is important that your requests are received by this deadline to ensure your exam(s) are scheduled by UBC Scheduling Services. Today – Lunch & Learn Series: Drop-in Session to answer queries for the new school term
The LFS Learning Centre will be hosting a drop-in session on Friday, September 9, 2022 at noon. The Learning Centre team will focus this session on ensuring all instructors’ questions are answered for the new term and troubleshooting any issues that came up in the first week.
We will also be discussing some ways in which instructors can build a sense of community in their courses early in the term. For this session, the Learning Centre team invites instructors to bring their tips, tricks, team building challenges and icebreakers to discuss how they have built a sense of community in their courses.

Phil brings over 20 years of experience driving growth in rapidly changing industries. Phil has run all facets of an organization, most recently as CEO of Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC). Under his leadership, MEC underwent a significant transformation program focused on e-commerce, store experience, supply chain, merchandising, and continuous improvement. Prior to joining MEC, Phil spent over a decade with Best Buy Canada, where his last role was Chief Financial & Administrative Officer. At Best Buy, Phil was responsible for areas spanning Finance, Strategy, Supply Chain, Real-estate, Technology, Geek Squad and Best Buy for Business. Phil began his career in management consulting, first with Deloitte and then McKinsey & Company. He worked with clients in the industrial, telecommunications, and financial services sectors.
He is involved in the community as a Board Member of the BC Women’s Health Foundation, and as an Adjunct Professor at the UBC Sauder MBA program. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill and an MBA from the Kellogg School |

Oct. 14 – Health Innovation Funding Investment (HIFI) Awards
UBC Health invites faculty members at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan to submit a proposal for the Health Innovation Funding Investment (HIFI) Awards by October 14, 2022.
UBC Health is offering up to $25,000 to faculty members who are collaborating across faculties, disciplines, and campuses to develop new teams, pursue new ideas, or translate findings from innovative health-related research.
In addition to the general, open call for HIFI, UBC Health is inviting applications that focus on initiatives which promote diversity and inclusion and have the potential to impact health equity across individuals, communities, and societies.
